The previous day’s warmth dissipated and strong winds and occasional showers made life difficult for the 94 starters in the Team Blood 6.5 km handicap along the Barwon River paths. It was Zytel Hircoe who coped best, holding off the fast finishing Mark Clayton to win by 5 metres with Mary Harrison a further 5 metres back in third place. It was second year runner Hircoe’s first win which she attributed to a detox leading up to the race. New member, Jarron Cole, was easily the fastest male and last year’s female club champion, Natalie Mensch, was comfortably the fastest female.
