East Geelong Discount Drug Store 8000m Handicap

Eighty-seven keen athletes gathered on a very pleasant Sunday morning for the East Geelong Discount Drug Store 8 km handicap around a very testing course at Inverleigh.  The three steep climbs make the course a favourite for backmarkers. It was club senior vice-president Kevin McNulty who ended his run of minor placings with a convincing victory by almost a minute from Stephane Vander Bruggen with the flying veteran Grant Simpson close up in third place. McNulty has been training strongly with his early morning group with the emphasis on hill work as well as track work at Landy Field. Kate Bramley and Grant Simpson were easily the fastest for their gender. After the race, the sumptuous morning tea provided by the race sponsor was greatly appreciated by all.
