The threatening weather did not deter 89 hopefuls from lining up for the East Geelong Discount Drug Store 8 km handicap at Inverleigh. The very strong wind affecting parts of the hilly course seemed sure to advantage the backmarkers and so it proved with Dom Godfrey storming through the field to win comfortably from Luke Ryan and the scratchman, Ron Thomas. Godfrey has just returned to racing after a fractured shoulder sidelined him. Invitation athlete, Kate Child, was easily the fastest female whilst Ron Thomas gained more points in the battle for a second male club championship. Geoff Kanga Wilks was recognised for running his 200th club race.
