A field of 57 attempted the Windows by Geoff Case 10 km King of the Mountains handicap at the You Yangs on Sunday. It was a brisk morning but thankfully the prediction of showers was not accurate.
The race should have been renamed the Monarch of the Mountain after Rachael Thompson became only the third female to win the race in the club’s 52 year history. She overtook her brother, Sean in the last kilometre to win by 70 metres with Dan Wright, who last weekend ran a 24 hour race, in third place.
A former club champion, Thompson missed most of last season through injury but has returned in sparkling form to be leading this season’s championship along with Liam Drady who was also the fastest of his gender. A field of ten ran the alternative 5km event. Susan Andrews was congratulated on reaching her 100 run milestone.
