A cool, pleasant morning attracted a field of 118 for the running of the Steigen 5 km handicap at the Canoe Club on Sunday. Reigning club champion, Liam Drady led the field home with newcomer Hamish Renkin fifty metres astern. Former female club champion, Kate Bramley had a huge gap over her nearest rival, Pip Minney, another newcomer to club ranks.
When the hidden handicaps were applied, club stalwart Vin Gasper was the winner, making it a record 23 club victories. Gasper attributed his win to intensive marathon training over summer with a group of female members. Maddy Crawford was recognised for reaching her 100 run milestone.
